Day Retreats

The following programmes have been developed through consultation with groups currently using Aylesford Priory and through work with teachers and chaplains in our Schools. All our programmes include prayer, input and activities particular to the age group. Below are some of our Retreat themes tailored to key stages and age groups:

1Community Key stage 2 (Year 6)

Acknowledging students attending are part of a school community and moving on to
secondary school. We will explore the importance of faith Communities, and how we
make a positive contribution to our local and global environment. Input will include
celebrating our school community and looking forward in preparation for moving on.

2God’s work of Art (Key Stage 2 (Year 6) & Key Stage 3)

The focus for this day draws on the wealth of art and history at the Priory.
We look at the key symbols in our Christian faith as a way of aiding prayer
and reflection.

3God’s promise to his people (Key Stage 3 & 4)

This programme is designed to present some basic teaching of faith. Here we explore
how we live out a life of faith and encounter Christ in the everyday.

4The Pilgrims Way (Key Stage 3, 4 & 5)

Aylesford Priory is on the Pilgrims route to the ancient Cathedral in Canterbury. The
Pilgrims would stop for refreshment and prayer. This day encourages young people to
experience taking time out for reflection.

5The mark we make (Year 9 & Key Stage 4 & 5)

We all have a calling a definite purpose in life. This retreat day gives opportunity for
young people to develop tools for discernment. The format of the day aims to help
young people think about the impact they have on the people and world around
them.

6Ordinary people extraordinary things (Key Stage 3 & 4)

We are all blest with many gifts from God. This day will focus on the lives of some of
the saints. The aim of the day is to encourage and inspire the young people in their
day-to-day lives.

7Tools for the journey (Lent) (Year 6 + material age appropriate)

At this time in the Christian calendar we are encouraged to reflect on our own lives
and perhaps evaluate our priorities. The retreat day will encourage students through
reflection and prayer.

8Follow the Star (Advent) (Year 6 + material age appropriate)

At this time of year it’s easy to lose focus on the real meaning of Advent. This retreat
day reflects on the key themes of Advent using prayer and scripture to ‘prepare the
way of the Lord’.
